    1. I tried to install acrobat reader on CentOs 7. I got the following error:

      Error: Package: AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486 (/AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu)
      Requires: libpangox-1.0.so.0
      You could try using –skip-broken to work around the problem

      I tried –skip-broken option and then I got this error:

      Packages skipped because of dependency problems:
      AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486 from /AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu

      Any suggestions? Thank you!

      • I’ve solved it with yum install pangox* which installs pangox-compat.i686:0.0.2-2.el7 and its dependences. This after installing pangox-compat-0.0.2-2.el7.x86_64.rpm from pbone rpms, though I’m not sure if needed. Looks like it needs both versions.

      • I see all the Linux Guru’s are ignoring this problem. Very Annoying when a company that has always supported linux all of a sudden dumps it for another OS. Not saying Adobe’s management is dumb but bad move dudes. If they don’t want to support Windows Fonts, apparently that is all libpangox is? Why include it in the package? Because MS had them install it? Linux isn’t a desktop environment after all is it? And apparently we have no hot shot linux types that can figure this one out? (That is not a put down, it’s a challenge guys!) Let resolve this bitch and get on with our lives. What little I have left.

        I updated this guide to work better with CentOS 7. You have to add nux-dextop repo to get right pangox-compat i686 package.

        
## Install nux-dextop repo ##
yum localinstall http://li.nux.ro/download/nux/dextop/el7/x86_64/nux-dextop-release-0-5.el7.nux.noarch.rpm
 
## English version ##
yum localinstall AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.rpm

        I tested this on clean CentOS 7 installation and it’s working for me. Please let me know if you have still problems with it.

    2. Hello,
      I got it working under Fedora 20/64 a few months ago.
      Now I’m not sure why it doesn’t start for a regular user, just dies silently, no traces in logs.

      Just shown in the invoking terminal:
      (acroread:5824): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: “adwaita”.

      But if launched from the root account it works (despite that warning). So it should be a permissions problem, but I wonder where/what is it not liking. Any hints ?

      • I answer my concern about the adwaita module at least:

        yum install adwaita-gtk2-theme-3.10.0-2.fc20.i686

        or simply:

        yum install adwaita-gtk2-theme.i686

          yum install PackageKit-gtk3-module.i686

          For what it helps (Fedora 20/64). This get rid of:
          Gtk-Message: Failed to load module “pk-gtk-module”

    3. Having the same issue as layz. These instructions in 3A have no mention of libpangox-1.0.so.0, or pango or PangoX or whatever it is. There is a libpango-1.0.so.0 (no ‘x’) on a fresh CentOS 7 installation but that’s of no help.

    4. Installation successful, but trying to run acroread, Fedora 20 tells me:
      error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.0.9.8: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires

      Any suggestions please?

      • Hi Steve,

        This sounds old SELinux problem (maybe permission denied is missing from your comment?).

        Try following command as root user:

        
chcon -t execmem_exec_t '/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread'

        Then try to start acroread again as normal user.

      I followed the tutorial but I get:

      Error: Package: AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486 (/AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu)
      Requires: libpangox-1.0.so.0
      You could try using –skip-broken to work around the problem
      You could try running: rpm -Va –nofiles –nodigest

      However locate libpangox-1.0.so.0 gives:

      [[email protected] ~]# locate libpangox-1.0.so.0 gives
      /usr/lib/libpangox-1.0.so.0
      /usr/lib/libpangox-1.0.so.0.0.0
      /usr/lib64/libpangox-1.0.so.0
      /usr/lib64/libpangox-1.0.so.0.0.0

      Note: I have created symbolic links in /usr/lib to point to /usr/lib64/libpangox-1.0.so.0 …

      Any help would be welcome,

        I’ve searched google and can’t find an answer that fits. My permissions seem fine. And I’ve even tried setting .adobe to 777 and still no joy. My home directory is on a larger partition (4TB) but it’s ext4 formatted not XFS

        Any thoughts?

    10. This didn’t work for me initially. When running with strace it crashes because libnss_sss.so.2 is not found.

      This fixed the problem (I’m on x86_64):

      dnf install sssd-client.i686

    11. I followed the instructions to install Adobe Reader on Centos 7. However, I got the following error message when I run $acroread “An internal error ocurred”.
