VirtualBox Guest Additions on Fedora 34/33, CentOS/RHEL 8/7/6/5 - Comment Page: 14
This is guide, howto install Oracle VirtualBox Guest Additions on Fedora, CentOS and Red Hat (RHEL). This guide should work with Fedora 34/33/32/31/30, CentOS 8.2/7.8/6.10/5.11, Red Hat (RHEL) 8.2/7.8/6.10/5.11.
VirtualBox Guest Additions is special software that can be installed inside Linux virtual machines to improve performance and make integration much more seamless. Among the features provided by these VirtualBox Guest Additions are mouse pointer integration and arbitrary screen solutions (e.g. by resizing the guest window).

“Note: Fedora 31/30/29/28 have build in VirtualBox Guest Additions, but if you still wan’t (some reason) install latest/development/different version of GA, then you can use this guide.”
No… VirtualBoxGuestAdditions WILL NOT install in VirtualBox for Fedora 31/30/29/28. Every single time that you try to install it returns the error that the kernel-headers are not found. I have tried every possible way that I could find online and the Guest Additions absolutely will not install.
The Guest Additions shipped with Fedora WILL NOT INSTALL. Even if you update the kernel Guest Additions still WILL NOT INSTALL.

There are reports about this going back years, but no fix. And there is a ton of online garbage fixes for the issue. None of them work.
The only way that I have been able to install Guest Additions for the past year running VirtualBox on Windows 10 is to follow this guide.
Thanks bittricks for this info!
I love the authors of this! For a long time I tried to do it! Thanks!
Don’t often find an install guide that runs this smoothly– great work, particularly with all the localizations for different OS’s!
Gracias me sirvio mucho.
FYI … On Oracle Linux 7 the package for kernel headers is named differently:
# yum install kernel-uek-devel
…
Excellent – after trying many solution this is the only one that worked – OEL 8.1 with latest updates
Great article, works like a charm.
Muito obrigado!
Resolveu para mim.
Hello !
I was having trouble installing the addons on Fedora 31. I followed all steps and it worked like a charm :)
Thanks a lot
I can’t get past step 3 because I see no Devices menu. I’ve tried adding it from the User Interface settings in virtual box but it still doesn’t show up.
Very helpful tips.
Thanks!
For CentOS 5.4 I had to use:
rpm -Uvh https://archives.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/epel/5/x86_64/epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
After install rpms (needed to change CD many times) I used:
sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
(it didn’t run without ‘sh’)
This was a problem for me for ages and no one else had the solution. I kept getting a kernel headers missing error. Following this guide worked perfectly. Thank you!
centos 8 flawless instructions thanks!
THIS is the only site that has actually helped me solve this problem. I was struggling with this installation until now. Thanks.
