Hi Goon,
This problem is actually with Remi repo and Scientific Linux. Remi repo uses $releasever variable and on SL, it is 6.1, 6.2 etc and repo urls works just with number 6.
So howto fix this, run following command:
Then try again, is it working? :)

And try again. Is it working then?
I would like to learn how to update vlc to version 2.0
Thanks again for your guides. Do you know of any way to install Firefox 12 on Fedora 16?
Hi Jonathan,
On Fedora 16 just run:
At the time that he posted that question, an .RPM was not yet in the repository, which is one reason (amongst others) that it’s a shame that you didn’t let my prior comment become public. (Not that I’d be shocked if this one was deleted as well.)
Hi Daniel,
This site gets several thousands of comments every single day (most are spam) and all suspicious comments are filtered as spam, if certain conditions are met. If you use fake/spammers email address, post links, advertise on comments etc. those comments are very high probability marked as spam and deleted. Also Stop Forum Spam and Project Honey Pot excellent databases are used to fight against comment spam.
So this might be reason why your comment will never become public. I apologize, but this job is not possible to do manually.
Yes, that is correct. The day after I posted here FF 12 showed up in the repos.
Yes, it’s true. I just checked it with YUM today… :)
I will update this guide soon, normally if you want get latest version as soon as possible then I recommend to use rawhide repo or updates-testing repo. Btw. very minor changes on Firefox 12.
Must be minor, didn’t really notice anything. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the version numbers and want the very latest and greatest.
Current Firefox rapid release cycle is copied from Google Chrome / Chromium. The only thing that is a different way is that the Mozilla (users) keep big noise about the Firefox version numbers, but Google Chrome users rarely even know what version they are using, and Google Chrome is always top notch. :)
Nowadays, almost the only things what I wait from new browser versions / releases are speed and lightness. :)
For a time, Red Hat was unconscionably slow about supporting newer versions of Firefox, and I therefore began a series at my 'blog about installing the latest stable release on RHEL (and clones thereof) from the binary archive. (One does not have to chose between using an RPM and building from source!) The procedure therein would work just fine for Fedora, but there is so little lag between when Mozilla.com provides the binaries and the Fedora Project releases an RPM that I haven’t bothered to mention that.
Hmmmm…had trouble with ‘rpm -Uvh http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm‘, kept returning a HTTP 404 error.
Got it to install anyway, just found that part weird.
Thnks Bro for this seful post……………………
I will upgrade my firefox browser in rhel6 32bit……..
It was really a usefull post thanks once again……..
I have installed firefox 10.0.5 on redhat 5.8 successfully by following this doc. It is very helpful. But one issue coming up is that when I run $firefox, nothing is happening, the firefox browser is not launched, but i can tell the firefox is running. I am not sure if i need to start x-window or not, if need, how to do? I am new to linux. So your help is highly appreciated.
Hi lili,
Actually command is just firefox, not $firefox, and yes you will need X, if you want to use graphical programs. You could try to start X simply with following command (if you have it installed):
