Install Skype 8.69 on Fedora 34/33, CentOS/RHEL/SL 8.3/7.8 - Comment Page: 2
This is guide, howto install Skype 8.69 on Fedora 34/33/32/31 on CentOS/Red Hat (RHEL)/Scientific Linux (SL) 8.3/7.8. This is actually easy process, I updated this guide and use Skype own RPM package, because it's currently only way the install Skype. Skype 4.3 and older versions are outdated after July 1. 2017.
Notice From Skype download page:
Important notice: All Skype for Linux clients version 4.3 and older will be retired on July 1, 2017. To keep chatting, please install the latest version of Skype for Linux.

1. Install Skype 8.69 on Fedora...
Heyyyyyyyy
Thanks for this beautifull tutorial!
Everything is really working now.
I had the same problem as “guyrodge” (The last comment) and did the same solution and now everything works! thanks guyrodge …:)
i am using fedora 14 & i install skype with this tutorial
i am not able to start the application by using skype command.
eventhough on cliking skype icon.
Hi Mahesh,
Do you get some error when you try to start it using skype command on command line?
thanks JR for reply
i do not get any error when i start it using skype command.
it simply like this.(skype do not open.)
[[email protected] mahesh]# skype
[[email protected] mahesh]#
Hi Mahesh,
Sorry for long wait, but try to start skype as normal user (not root) and check what happens then?
today my skype stopped working, when you enter it automatically closes and does not report any error …
SELinux was returned that he was terminated by signal 6 (SIGABRT)
thank you, now i´ve got working skype
but i´m a bit lazy and have installed only dependencies from your example and after that downloaded and installed skype.rpm for fedora file from skype.com
and it´s worked!
P.S. yum showed errors on glibc2.i686, so i´ve had to remove it from the my dependencies list.
my system is default Fedora 17 x86_64
Thanks to the suggestions I was able to get Skype calls running. After several systems updates, however, calls do not work any more (including test calls). Under Options (from the icon) I can show that my UVS Camera is working (confirmed also by the control light on the camera). No such control light comes on during a test call and no sound is recorded. I repeated the installation several times. Where may I be going wrong?
With so many repeat installations I changed the shell script skype to:
$ cat /usr/bin/skype
# 6/14/2012 WRJ
#!/bin/sh
if test ! -f /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4
then
echo need to link /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4
su -c “ln -s /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3 /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4″
fi
export SKYPE_HOME=”/opt/skype”
$SKYPE_HOME/skype –resources=$SKYPE_HOME $*
############################# S K Y P E ######################################
Nice it almost worked for my RHEL 6.2. Just had to use the following to address an error with libtiff.so.
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/424758-error-while-loading-shared-libraries-libtiff-so-4-a.html
Thanks.
Hi,could you please update this tuto as there is skype 4.0 available for linux yet.
Cheers.
Hi sgr,
I will update this guide soon and test it also with Fedora 17 :)
Hi JR,
Thanks it’s v.nice of you, plus you could also take into account writing a tuto how to get Google App Engine up and running on CENTOS etc.
http://www.labnol.org/internet/host-website-on-google-app-engine/18801/
..as you will see this guide above is for windows only so that would be great having stuff like this for linux users too.
Best Regards,
Big Fan.
Thanks, it works!
Fedora 14 64bit
