    3. Hi JR,

Thanks a lot for this excellent guide, you have taken a weight from me because I was feeling like a loon for switching to nvidia (I had to because I needed TensorFlow)

In the update that came with the kernel 5.7.11-200 gcc was updated to 10.2.1,therefore in order to be able to build the modules, when you execute the nvidia binary you must use the –no-cc-version-check

      i.e.

      ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-450.57.run –no-cc-version-check

      Hope this helps someone.

      Cheers!

    5. Thanks for the guide. I only had one issue… It failed on registering with DKMS. I have a Dell laptop with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050i. I went to https://pkgs.org/search/?q=dkms and ran dnf install dkms. I re-ran the driver install and everything worked perfect.

    7. I have a linux workstation with an old Quadro FX 1800. I upgraded to Fedora 29 and then followed these instructions precisely, but they did not work to upgrade my nvidia driver to 340.108. When running the 340.180 installer, it could not compile the nvidia uvm module. The error message was “Failed to install the kernel module through DKMS. No kernel module was installed; Please try installing without DKMS…”. I tried installing without DKMS and it worked!

    12. Thanks for the guide, worked for me, after I caught my own mistakes. For new users having trouble, my suggestions are to check the following from the guide: (1) make sure you get the guide-recommended NVIDIA software version for your card, (2) disable SE Linux, (3) disable Secure Boot.

      nvidia-installer: version 440.100

      Linux localhost.localdomain 5.7.17-200.fc32.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Aug 21 15:23:46 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    13. nvidia 390.138 can not be compiled under kernel 5.8:

      void *ptr = __vmalloc(size, GFP_KERNEL, PAGE_KERNEL);
      | ^~~~~~~~~

However f32 just supplied its 5.8.4 kernel, which did not work with the above VGA. Neither DKMS nor kernel modules (without DKMS) worked. So I am stuck with the 5.7.17 kernel. Any updates?

And thank you so much for your good help.

      • Hello Peter,

I just updated this guide and patched 390.138 working with latest 5.8 kernels.

        • Dear JR, OK, I got your new patched 390.138 for the 5.8 kernels and ran it for the 5.8.6-201.fc32.x86_64 kernel and it worked like a charm.

          Thank you!
