Hi. I having trouble with installation of my Nvidia G210 on Fedora 33.
“Failed to run `/usr/sbin/dims build – M nvidia -v 340.108 -k 5.10.19-200.fc33.x86_64′:
Kernel preparation unnecessarily for this kernel. Skipping…”
The compilation get the bad exit status: 2
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.10.19-200.fc33.x86_64
Hello,
Just tested this once again with patched 340.108 and 5.10.19 kernel and works without problems.
Are you sure that you tried to install patched version?
– nvidia-installer: version 460.56
– Linux localhost.localdomain 5.10.21-200.fc33.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 8 00:24:40 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
– 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GA102 [GeForce RTX 3080] (rev a1)
Up and running with the latest kernel version!! Had to complete a reinstall after a kernel update.
thank you!
Dear JR,
Wow. You are really on top of this. Thanks!
Here’s my info:
nvidia-installer: version 390.141 ([email protected]) Mon Dec 28
Linux anna 5.11.7-200.fc33.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Mar 17 18:55:20 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF116 [GeForce GTX 550 Ti] (rev a1)
I had to try it twice. The first time, running the inttf NVIDIA patcher script got me
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.141-patched-kernel-5.11.run, which, when I tried to execute it, gave me a “not in gzip format” error. But I tried it again (as root, but I’m not sure that mattered) and this second time everything worked like a charm. It’s marvelous. Thanks so much.
ffmpeg not working.

So, I did this on Fedora 34, now fractional scaling doesn’t work. Any help?
What kind of setup you try to run? This might need custom xorg configuration to work.
Thanks!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!! Thaaaaanksss!!!!!
Thank you. Clear instructions that worked at the first attempt.

Hello! Thanks a lot for the guide! I did everything according to the instructions, as far as I can tell, everything worked well (the interface works noticeably much smoother, etc.), but nvidia x server settings did not appear in my list of applications. What can be done in this situation?

Thanks in advance for your reply!
Installation skipped the step:
2.8.6 NVIDIA Installer Automatic Xorg Config and Backup
And went to the step after it, and the system won’t reboot.
Hi Johnny,
You can say always boot back to runlevel 3 and run installer again. Btw. do you get any error message, when you try to boot?
Thank you so much! This fixed a problem I was having with lightdm not starting properly with kernel 5.11.x.

This fixed Linux Mint 20.04.1 “Cinnamon Crashed, Running in Fallback Mode” problem on a laptop using Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS. Thank you.
Is there anyway to get the Plymouth Splash screen to work with the NVidia 340.108 proprietary driver. Is it possible to use Nouveau to display the Splash Screen first then switch to the NVidia Driver?
I’ve tried “VBE” / Framebuffer mode, but that didn’t seem to work.
