This is guide, howto install NVIDIA proprietary drivers (manually using .run installer) on Fedora 37/36/35/34/33/32 and disable Nouveau driver. This guide works with GeForce 8/9/200/300/400/500/600/700/800/900/10/20/30/40 series cards.

I try build new kernels as soon possible, sometimes Fedora developers are much faster.
I used this guide on fedora 36, i managed to install the driver, updated the kernel to “Linux fedora 5.18.17-200.fc36.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Aug 11 14:36:06 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux” and no problems
But theres a new update 5.18.18-200, when I install it, the system wont even let me move to tty, i removed the kernel and everything is back to normal, how can I tell its safe to update the kernel?

Hello molotovich,
You should have kernel on exclude list and use kernel updates from inttf repo. If you install kernel from Fedora updates repo, then it won’t work.
Thank you so much for this guide! I got it working on Fedora 36 (dual boot with an old iMac!).
Vanilla Fedora installs with kernel 5.17. After system update, it was 5.18. Then, following your guide the kernel was upgraded to 5.19 (inttf patched). Everything went smooth. Thanks again!

I did the install over the last nvidia drivers, the installer removed the previous one..
Now it gets stuck on loading once again, but when I switch to another TTY and run the installer as soon as it loads, im thrown to the desktop (not 1 minute before)

I updated my fedora from 33 to 36. However only kernel which works for me is old 5.11.10-200.fc33. I installed nvidia installer version 460.67. During upgrade I installed 5.19.10-200.fc36 and then I installed your kernel 5.19.10-602.inttf.fc36. But none of those kernel will boot up successfully.
I can’t get my kernel or any kernel to boot in run level 3. I have also downloaded newer nvidia installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-470.141.03.run.
but I am unable to install that either.
Now one way would be to remove all old nvidia installed stuff, which seems to be not letting any other kernel boot up or even let running kernel bootup in run level 3. But I am not sure how to do that.
Do you know if there is a way to get newer kernel with newer nvidia installer working?

I successfully followed your directions; journalctl did not show the errors I had following rpmfusion’s directions.
However, the result was the same: many (perhaps all) graphical applications show scrambled windows on start up in Wayland.
Unfortunately, I have several applications (e.g., web browsers) which require Wayland.
What and where is the “Enable Wayland guide” you mentioned? I don’t see it on your site (or anywhere else).

I’m running Fedora 36.
I successfully followed your directions; journalctl no longer shows the errors I had following rpmfusion’s instructions.
However, the result was the same: many (perhaps all) graphical applications produce scrambled, unreadable windows.
I tried the “Enable XWayland” instructions, but they don’t seem to apply to my system.
I didn’t see any route to “disable wayland” in the 61.rules.d file.
If this piques your interest, let me know what information you need to investigate this.

I’ve been using your guide since, roughly, Fedora 29, but have not been able to get Wayland to work acceptably under F36 or F37 beta.
I can’t get Wayland to work consistently: Most Gnome apps (such as Settings) and also Calibre produce illegibly scrambled windows.
There’s nothing suspicious that I can see in dmesg or journalctl.
All suggestions gratefully received.

does this mean i have to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-520.56.06.run in order for the 5.19.15-602 to work?
You can upgrade to NVIDIA 520.56.06 or simply reboot to runlevel 3 and run installer again. I guess that some reason kernel modules are not build automatically. Maybe some dkms error?
No luck. I made a image backup and installed the nvidia and system dosnt boot into login screen. It hangs on the dkms and when it finishes I’m presented with a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I’ll revert back to the original ssd and stick with 515 nvidia and skip the next inttf kernel update after 5.19.15 as 5.19.15 seems broken as it would even boot into the login screen with numerous errors . Tbh I just can’t be bothered reinstalling and hacking Linux to run properly as it takes longer to perfect then Windows

5.19.15 xx fails to boot up properly. just presented with 3 nvidia square dots and hangs

I have used this method for a few years now on an Asus G750 (765M), thank you! Could you please post steps to reverse the process on Fedora 36 (i.e., restore Nouveau and remove Nvidia)? I’ve gotten to a place where the Nvidia driver is uninstalled, but I can’t get the Nouveau driver to load, even though it is no longer blacklisted. It’s had me stumped for a couple days, so maybe others would appreciate the reverse instructions too.

It should work, also remove ‘nvidia-drm.modeset=1’ from /etc/default/grub
