This is guide, howto install NVIDIA proprietary drivers (manually using .run installer) on Fedora 37/36/35/34/33/32 and disable Nouveau driver. This guide works with GeForce 8/9/200/300/400/500/600/700/800/900/10/20/30/40 series cards.

Before I tried a couple of time the rpm-fusion packages (that worked on F26) and failed.

It just works! I used to find this guide intimidating but after updating to kernel 4.16 the drivers from negativo17.org and rpmfusion just stopped working no matter how. Surprisingly, following this guide is quite easy and now the machine works quite nicely. Thanks for the post!
On Fedora 27, I have a big X crash after reboot following driver installation (step 2.9).
Startup screen freezes at “Started Accounts Service”, and startx fails in segfault. X error is “No screens found”.

Your problem is here:
If you re-check step 1.2 NVIDIA Optimus Technology. Unfortunately you have nVidia Optimus device and if you can’t disable nVidia Optimus/integrated Intel graphics, then you can only do offscreen rendering and run CUDA apps, but can’t drive a display. More info from http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/396.24/README/optimus.html.

but since fedora 28 there the nvidia drivers should be in the official repos? A Migration guide would be great! ;)

Unfortunately nVidia won’t be maybe never in Fedora’s official repos. Fedora contains only software distributed under free and open-source licenses, so until nVidia is closed source/proprietary software it won’t be in official repos.
You probably mean rpmfusion third-party repos? You can of course use their packages, but you are at very similar situation when you get updates, if something is broken, then it is, they use exactly same drivers. Their akmod package is same than, use dkms and nVidia’s original installer. Reason why this guide exists is my personal problems with third-party repos. You can’t currently install nVidia 340.xx or 396.xx drivers, just only 390.59 from rpmfusion repo.
My HP XW9400 system with nVidia Quadro FX-3500 would be considered “older” hardware. Just because it seems that with every new version of (Fedora) linux it becomes harder to get the nVidia driver installed, I stuck to Fedora 15. Until last week (jun, 2018), when your site made it clear to me that my previous attempts were doomed, because the nVidia installers were broken. Thanks for that! Because all my most recent attempts at upgrading were with Fedora 25, I decided that would be my target. The nVidia site led me to download the 334 installer, which I kinda knew wasn’t right. Indeed when I ran it, it told me I needed the 304 “legacy” installer that can be found through http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html From there I downloaded the 304.137 installer that could be patched with your “newer kernel” patch. From there I only needed to follow your step-by-step guide. Thanks.
I find it a pity that nVidia driver installation isn’t more gracefully supported by Linux. Yes, I know they are proprietary. 3D OpenGL graphics are very important to my work, though. nVidia was there in the early days of 2000 with good drivers that got the most out of their (also) proprietary gfx hardware. In those early days, I have thrown away more than one ATI card, because I just couldn’t get them to work with Linux. Have stuck with nVidia gfx ever since. Today, of course, everybody supports Linux. But it would be good for the “young folks” to remember and appreciate who were there early on. – crashulater

I followed everything exact and now my boot hangs at “starting switch root”
Hitting ctrl-alt-f2 can cause the screen to flash between graphical and command not sure what went wrong.

I actually was unable to get this working for me…..
All of the ‘if you succeed’ commands work, but I can’t actually start the Nvidia X Server part. It says no displays are available.
If anybody has a solution, please tell me.

Sorry for the late reply, but next thing to check is your Xorg.0.log after boot, do you see any errors? Btw. is your ATI device integrated graphic card?
I’m using wayland by default, not Xorg I believe.

I checked the Xorg log…. the file isn’t in use.
Also the ATI card is NOT builtin. I’d be fine removing it, but I’m scared that ill have no displays if I do
Do you have both card connected to monitor(s)?
If you are using nVidia drivers then you use Xorg too.

modprobe nvidia comes back wiiiiiiiiith literally nothing.
It should also be noted that during startup, I have an error… selinux denying nvidia-modprobe. I found this while going through the journalctl.
Once again, I really appreciate the help.
And yes, all cards are connected to monitors. If I were to hazard a guess, there’s no output from the NVIDIA card…

I guess that your Radeon card cause some problem with this, maybe you should just remove it without any changes and test boot your system. If it fails, then put your Radeon card back. Looks like nVidia drivers are loaded correctly.
If you still see SELinux errors, then you can do simple allow rule for nvidia-modprobe, but should not be needed currently. Alternatively you can disable SELinux and reboot your system.
Whenever I try to boot into runlevel 3, it just throws me into a blank screen. No terminal, no nothing.

Could you try to change another virtual console using Ctrl+Alt+F2 to Ctrl+Alt+F7?
Do you see GRUB2 normally? Then you can edit your boot parameters and try to add nomodeset parameter. You can use this guide to modify kernel boot parameters.

I followed all of the steps.
During the NVIDIA installation of the driver itself, I get a strange EAC error….
Which doesn’t stop it from being able to install, apparently.
However, while I can run those 3 commands you listed… I can’t get the X Server to run. If I run ‘nvidia-settings’ from the command line, I get a ‘no displays’ error.
I’m on Fedora 27.
Let me know if there’s something else I should do..

Regretfully it doesn’t work for me, tried legacy and uefi, the same result.I’m stuck at starting switch root. One thing that was different form the screenshots, I didn’t get prompted for the xconfig, so I ran nvidia-xconfig, after the first failed attempt, it didn’t help

It just stuck at loading log.
And it cannot get in the GUI desktop.

Pretty good overall guide- I had to do a number of things not mentioned here, however- due to mismatched headers and compiler issues- to get this to work on F28 with the 340.107 version. Unfortunately, it keeps crashing, going to revert to nouveau for now- using my Gentoo installation for the time being, as it has no graphic card issues.
