Fedora 29 (4.19)
Nvidia 415.25
Graphics card GTX 770
Did everything as per your guide.
Updated and all.
Still getting error like ‘Slawek’.
Nvidia installer says nouveau drivers are still running. The Nvidia setup tried to disable them (blacklist) but still no use.
Step 2.6.2 (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”rd.lvm.lv=fedora/swap rd.lvm.lv=fedora/root rhgb quiet rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau”) I dont have this line in this grub. But it is in /etc/default. Tried editing both (one at a time and both at same time) none of them works.
What wrong am i doing? (I have followed each and every thing step by step) still no use.
Please help me out. …
Hi Kiran,
Do you use UEFI or BIOS? Only step where you can choose wrong command is 2.6.3 Update grub2 conf which could cause this.
Or some typo could also cause this.
Thanks for the very detailed description on the website about how to install Nvidia drivers. Unfortunately, however, it still didn’t work (yet) on my computer. I thought it cannot be a ‘ Nvidia Optimus’ problem, because the Nvidia card was recognized on the same computer during a previous installation with Linux Mint 19.
When I type, after having followed the procedure on the website: ‘nvidia-settings’, it returns ‘ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system’.
Would you have any idea what is wrong?
Details:

Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks.
Hi Mike,
If you can run pure nVidia drivers (without bumblebee or something else) on Linux Mint, then this should work for you. But your device GeForce GT 740M is nVidia Optimus device, so I guess that this is nVidia Optimus problem. You can install nVidia drivers and run Cuda apps, but you can’t run graphical environments.
Yet another fedora 29 kernel 4.19.10 problem.
$ lspci -v | grep -E “VGA|3D”

nvidia-installer: version 415.25
After installing NVIDIA driver (415.25) and restarting, I see a bunch of boot messages, ending at Started GNOME Display Manager but the boot into graphical mode never completes. (Never see the login pop-up). Alt-F2 etc gives me a login prompt on the command line, but I haven’t figured out how to get graphics back. Any hints?
Hi Jeff,
I just tested all supported nVidia driver versions, 415.25, 410.78, 390.87 (patched), 340.107 (patched) with kernel 4.19.10 and all works normally. Maybe you should try to reinstall your nVidia driver, please let me know is it working then?
Hi,
I just upgraded to fc29 and I can’t find a driver that works. I have Quadro M1200 Mobile with kernel 4.19.10-300.fc29.x86_64. The display is 3849×2160 which is the source of many problems in the past. I have tried 390.87 (which failed), 390.87-patched, 396.51, 396.54, 410.66, 410.78, 415.25. The 400 builds all segfault on startup. 390.87-patched works but displays only in the upper-left quadrant.
In the past, I have been able to install builds up through 390. I have another workstation with GeForce GTX 950 and one with GeForce GTX 960 which have dual 2560×1440 displays, but are stuck on fc26 until I can solve this.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.
Hi again,
Regarding my previous comment, I solved the segfaults with this comment (https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1044851/linux/fyi-nvidia-410-78-driver-fails-with-segmentation-fault-on-fedora-fc29-workstation-with-nvs-510-card/post/5301228/?offset=8#5306373) but I still have all versions now display only in the upper-left quadrant.

“/Fedora 29/28/27 nVidia Restore Plymouth (BIOS/UEFI Users)” This section doesn’t work Because in fedora 29, section 4.3 ,especially code bellow:
sed -i -e ‘s/sixteenbit=”16″/sixteenbit=””/’ /etc/grub.d/10_linux
changes nothing.
Thank you for you guide, it is very helpful. I had to reinstall driver twice because I get a black screen after login the first time.

@JR just curious, why are the NVIDIA drivers for Linux not always incremental? Not sure if I downgraded by installing the latest one.
Hi Steve,
Drivers are incremental, but you have to choose what branch you use.
Linux x86_64/AMD64/EM64T
Latest Long Lived Branch Version: 410.93
Latest Short Lived Branch Version: 415.25
Latest Legacy GPU version (390.xx series): 390.87
Latest Legacy GPU version (340.xx series): 340.107
Many thanks for your guide! All worked fine except that I needed to do
dnf -y install “kernel-devel-uname-r == $(uname -r)”
in order to get the headers for the DKMS stuff to work.

Hi Andrew Martin,
You don’t have to do it, if you run commands on step. 2.4 Make sure that you system is up-to-date and you are running latest kernel. And then of course use patched nVidia 390.87 installer.

Guide worked perfectly, thank you for the detailed help!
Great job on the guide, JR! Much thanks. My box is a Dell Precision T3500 running an NVidia NVS Quadro 420 on Fedora 29 and kernel 4.19.13-300.fc29.x86_64.
Instructions were almost 100% complete for my system. There was slight confusion at step 2.1 as the note for 340.107 users did not specifically articulate that Fedora 29 users needed the patched version. After initially failing with the non-patched version of the driver, I was able to download the patch driver version and compile the driver. Maybe just add Fedora 29 as target OS and above kernel for that step and the install will be perfect for others.
thanks again,
sodo
Hi Sodo,
Thanks for your feedback and you are totally right, Fedora 29 is some reason missing from the list! I just updated this guide!
