    4. wow this looks very complex and so many things could go wrong just to get a crucial driver working.

why no easier steps like the ppa on ubuntu or a “installer” that does all this steps for you?

i can just imagine something failing and then needing do reinstall the distro after you already went through so much stuff to install the driver

      meanwhile on ubuntu based distros:
      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
      sudo apt-get update

      Boom done update and enjoy.
      On windows being even easier.

I guess fedora just don’t want more people since only an idiot would want to make his life more complex (even if he had the knowledge , what kind of idiot would want to make 100 more steps for the same result while increasing his failure rate by 2000%

      • Hi Dragos,

Fedora is not designed to support nVidia proprietary (closed source) drivers. Feel free to use nouveau, if installation is too hard for you.

Please read https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/ and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_myths?rd=FedoraMyths to get idea what Fedora is and what it is not.

So Ubuntu and Windows, Linux Mint etc. They do whatever to get more users and Fedora Project try to offer best experience with free and open source alternatives. If you want to blame someone, then please blame nVidia not Fedora.

    5. Hi everyone,

I installed successfully the nvidia 430.26 (geforce MX150) at the intel core i7 8550u using Fedora 30 (without dkms). When I put “nvidia-installer -v”, is shown:
      “nvidia-installer: version 430.26
The NVIDIA Software Installer for Unix/Linux.
This program is used to install, upgrade and uninstall The NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver Set for Linux-x86_64.”

      If I put “lspci |grep -E “VGA|3D”, I have:
“00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (rev 07)
      01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP108M [GeForce MX150] (rev a1)”

But at the settings (Details), at Graphics, there is “Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (Kabylake GT2)”. How can I set GeForce there? And nvidia-settings doesn’t work (I think due to wayland, is it a problem?), the GeForce board is working?

      Thanks a lot.

Is this nVidia Optimus device? Check step. 1.2 nVidia Optimus.

Could you post output of following command:

        lspci |grep -E "VGA|3D"

    7. My desktop running Fedora 29 and driver version 418.43 is having the same problem as reported by many others here with 390.x drivers – i.e. dkms failed to compile the driver when updating to the 5.1.x kernels with errors like:

static inline int list_is_first(const struct list_head *list,

The last working kernel was kernel-5.0.19-200.fc29.x86_64.

I notice there is now a newer version of the driver 430.x. Will installing this new version fix my problem? Thanks

Thank you! I’ve been trying to do this for days! I have a question, some distributions of Linux present video problems (monitor out of range), not only when installing them but also when using the bootable. Personally when this error occurs from the beginning, I do not know how to continue with the installation or how to use the system once installed. Any ideas?

    10. Tried to install latest LT-driver with

      # ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-430.26.run

      and got the error:
      ——–
      FATAL: modpost: GPL-incompatible module nvidia.ko uses GPL-only symbol ‘mutex_destroy’
      ——–

      My configuration (Fedora 31) :
      # uname -r

      nvidia-installer: version 430.26

    12. I also tried to set the variable CONFIG_DEBUG_MUTEXES to ‘N’ (no) in the kernel sources:

      /usr/src/kernels/5.2.0-0.rc6.git1.1.fc31.x86_64/.config
      and
      /usr/src/kernels/5.2.0-0.rc6.git1.1.fc31.x86_64/include/config/auto.conf

      Again – no luck!

      In the nvidia-installer.log it reads:
      ————-
      FATAL: modpost: GPL-incompatible module nvidia.ko uses GPL-only symbol ‘mutex_destroy’
      make[2]: *** [scripts/Makefile.modpost:91: __modpost] Error 1
